Belén Barnaus, soprano


Belén Barnaus is a soprano from Barcelona graduated at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

She started her singing career at the age of thirteen playing the main role in the operetta Brundibar by Hanz Kraza in “El Mercat de les Flors”, organized by the Catalan Institute of Education and El Gran Teatre del Liceu. 

One year later she had her debut in the opera house of Barcelona (El Gran Teatre del Liceu) singing the role of the third genius of Die Zauberflöte which went on tour to the International Festival of Granada in 2000.

Along with this, she entered the female choir Aura of which she was a member for eight years. With them she recorded two CDs, made a tour to Mallorca and performed in a wide range of venues around Catalunya including “El Palau de la Música Catalana” and “l’Auditori Winterthur”

 She has also gained experience singing in the professional choir “Madrigal” with which she sang The Creation by Haydn, Daphnis et Chloe by Ravel, The War Requiem By Britten or The B minor Mass by J.S. Bach.

 Belén has worked with important conductors such as Bertrand de Billy and Josep Pons.

  In 2006 Belén was admitted at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she worked with important figures of the music world like: Edith Wiens, Eugene Asti, Yvonne Kenny, Adrian Thompson, Lada ValešováAndrew West, Pamela Lidiard, Linnhe Robertson, Susanna Stranders, Susan Waters, Richard Jackson or Sarah Walker.

In may 2009, Belén won a prize for the best performance of a contemporary Catalan piece in the Chamber Music Competition of Sant Joan de Vilatorrada and nowadays she is professional singer, private singing teacher and choral conductor while she carries her studies with Kate Paterson.

 Venues Belen has performed in include: el Gran Teatre del Liceu, el Generalife de Granada, El Mercat de les Flors of Barcelona as well as multiple churches in England and Spain.

Choraly, Belén has sung in St. Martin in the Fields, the Barbican Centre, l’Auditorio Manuel de Falla, l’Auditori de Barcelona, El Palau de la Música Catalana, El Parc Güell, Palacio Euskalduna and l’Auditori Winterthur.

 In April 2011 Belén started her choral conducting career creating the professional female choir Alma Mater Ensemble. 

From April to October 2011 Belén attended the Intermediate Course of Coral Conducting organized  by the ABCD.

Belén took part in April 2012 in the British Youth Opera Easter workshops and in November Belén will be performing the double role of Musica/Euridice in Orfeo by Monteverdi at Hampstead Garden Opera.

In September Belén will be continuing her studies at Guildhall School of Music & Drama in the Historical Performance Master.
